SPEEDRACER: What time do you get off of work? I’m making you dinner and we can talk about it then.

Brooklyn

Once his shift was completed, Jarell found himself knocking on Brooklyn’s door once again. Unlike the first time he was there, there was no hesitation. He was hurting internally and this was one of the only places he would feel better, even if it was only temporary. Even if it were the cause of a majority of the pain, he was going through.

“Hey,” Brooklyn greeted once she pulled the door open. Dressed in a mid-thigh length, red laced negligee the exposed a red thong underneath, and a pair of red five-inch peep toe heels, Brooklyn looked stunning. Pulling him inside, she closed the door, locking it.

Standing in the doorway frozen, he began to feel light again. Jarell couldn’t decipher if it were because of the aroma of fried, home cooked food in the air or if it was simply because he was in Brooklyn’s presence again. But for the first time in a while, he felt good again. He felt like his normal self.

Kissing his cheek lightly, leaving a trace of red lipstick on his face, Brooklyn took his large hand inside her own. Guiding him into the dining room, she pulled his chair out for him before disappearing into her state-of-the-art kitchen. Flopping down on a cushioned seat at the dinner table, Jarell’s eyes focused on the flames that burned brightly from the candles that were sitting on the surface. The way they danced around on the wick carelessly, yet in unison, it appeared as if they were one flame on two candles.

“Here you go,” Brooklyn broke his gaze, placing a porcelain plate covered in fried pork chops, baked macaroni and cheese, fresh collard greens, and homemade butter biscuits in front of him. A delighted chuckle escaped Jarell’s mouth. He was finally getting the meal he had been craving for weeks. “You have no idea how long I have been wanting this,” he spoke through a smile. “You always know exactly what I need to feel better.”

Brooklyn grinned as she sat in the seat across from him. “I’m glad that I could make you smile. I hadn’t heard from you in a few days and I was starting to worry.”

Evading the latter comment, Jarell placed a fork full of collard greens in his mouth. His eyes rolled in the back of his head in indulgence. The smell alone made his stomach growl greedily while the seasoning sent his tongue dancing with excitement. “How in the hell did you know this is my favorite meal?”

“Lucky guess,” Brooklyn shrugged with an added wink.

Jarell looked at her and grinned. “Yeah I bet.”

For a moment, there was silence. As he stuffed his face with the food Brooklyn had prepared, she simply watched him. She knew the quickest way to a man’s heart was through his stomach, she had learned that from a young age. But give a man a good meal and some good loving, and she had no doubt that she’d have him hooked.
